Last Post evah!!! (Reflection 04-01) Part 1

Final "reflection"... yay...

The most important lesson that I have learnt in EIR is probably the "Internet Ethics"... Why? Well maybe because it is important to learn the proper behavior when using the internet. Misbehaving in the internet can lead to "online fights" and/or other stuff such as cyber-bullying/cyber-confrontation. Those things can cause the user to experience unpleasant events when they are using the internet. This means that learning proper internet ethics is all the more important.

Ah well, today is the last day of EIR... It was fun doing the school discovery programme with you guys, really!!!

Reflection 03-31

Today... was... like any other day... lolz.... anyway, we had a test today... and (unlike last Friday's test) I only got 13/20... hey you can't blame me! The questions were (again) randomly generated so maybe its just my luck to get those... questions... lol...

Aside from that, we didn't really do much today, barring the fact that most of us are rushing to complete our portfolios... yeah I'm one of them...

The "highlight of the day" would probably be when we all took our photos... our one and only group photo by the way... (excluding a certain guy who refused to get his photo taken... don't know why though...)...

Oh and I almost forgot... we also did the groupn wikin thing where we are supposed to "contribute" to the wiki site (http://eir-rawkz.wetpaint.com)... hehehe... I did contribute and all but... it isn't really that much... lolz...

Well thats all I have for today... until next time! (or to be more precise, last time... lolz...)...

Reflection 03-30 ("My Dream Holiday")

Well now we have to this reflection about the our "dream holiday place"... And I have just the place in mind...
JAPAN'S AKIHABARA!!! Woohoo!!! here I come!!!...

Why Akihabara? Well, mainly because, it is a consecrated place to Otaku people (and, to some extent, I'm on of them too...) so it will really be a dream come true for me? Yeah!!!...

(thanks to http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3003.html for pics...)

Can't really find a really "multimidially" site so I'll have just to settle through with this... ah well...

Coverage-wise, it the site has already covered a tourist's FAQs (or Frequently Asked Questions) in my opinion... It also contains detailed information about the place...

Well thats all for now... I'll just add anything else, if any...

Reflection 03-27

Friday... yay... lolz...

Today was our first test on EIR and mind you I was nervous like hell... I was like in a "what kind of question are gonna come up" kind of mood... lolz...

Surprisingly, I managed to snatch away 16 out of the 20 MCQ questions (Lucky me!!!)... Hey thats like 80%, which means an 'A'!!! lolz...

Aside from the test, we also did simple role play when we were asked to apply our skills and evaluate www.talkingcock.com ... we played the role of foreigners and (for some reason) decided that we will all have "negative" comments about the site... lolz... anyway, the activity was fun overall, though I can't help but notice that some people aren't really that interested... lol...

Reflection 03-26

There is only one word to describe today: "forum"...

Why is that so? Well, its because practically everything we did today has something to do with online forums and discussion boards; we discussed our personal experiences when we used the forums that corresponds with our topic that we were supposed to research... While most of my friends already recieved their own respective replies, I, unfortunately, still have not... I wonder why... lolz...

Aside from our topic forums, we also participaated on the OLE-BB discussion board, where we all had so much fun replying to each other's post... although in a nonsensical way... lolz... well yeah... that's all I can remember... I'll just add in anything if there is still something...

Reflection 03-25

Now then, 3rd day...

Today, we touched on the types of search facilities such as SEARCH ENGINES, META SEARCH ENGINES, SUBJECT DIRECTORIES and INVISIBLE WEBS (DATABASES). As we have already covered search engines during yesterday's lesson, we did the other three.

We compared the meta search engines with the subject directories. Personally, I would prefer the meta search engines over subject directories as the subject directory used ( http://dir.yahoo.com/?skw=yahoo+directory ) was unable to produce any results that is relevant to my research topic (a disappointment for me, really) while the meta search engine that we used ( http://www.metacrawler.com/ ) was able to produce completely relevant topics.

For the Invisible Webs, we made use of the TP Database to search for our research topics. While I was able to find very relevant topics, I would still prefer using search/meta search engines to research on my topic as most databases are inaccessible to the public and requires you to have an account to login and use them (like the TP spark and TBSCO).

Lastly, we learnt how to site feed (atom.xml) that enabled us to view each other's blog in a "text-summary" version. I actually found it useful, especially for those "hard-to-navigate" blogs... lolz...

Well that's all for now... yeah I know yesterday's was longer... but really, its the quality that matters, right?...

Reflection 03-24

Awrightz... now time for my day 2 reflectyion...

Well, well, well... Today's situation is practically "same" as yesterday. However, the Topic we learned today is very interesting : "SEARCH STRATEGIES". We learned hot to include and use Boolean operators to "narrow down" the search results to those that corresponds with the topic the most. Aside from those, we also made use of Stems and Wildcards to help ease our searching.

While searching for "Role of Robots in Society" (which happens to be my search topic), I made use of all those search strategies. And what do you know; I had such an easy time finding the neccessary resoources related to my topic! I was really amazed at the speed at which I found those resources as compared to not using Boolean operators. The downside, however, using that method requires typing stuff that I am not really used to typing when searching...

During Practical, we were tasked to compare the search engines of http://www.google.com/ and http://scholar.google.com/ by using both. Initially, I felt that the scholar would be more efficient and effective in producing my required topic. Well it did, but it's all articles and reports (which is still useful by the way). However, upon comparing the two more in-depthly, I realized that google alone is more efficient for me. This is because, although it does give some irrelevent information, it does give a very wide range of results from which you have a lot more choices to choose the "best" source.

Another thing is that we were supposed to participate in a discussion forum that is related to our research topic. Although already found the forum for my topic (thanks to google), I have yet to post something although one of this days I will. As I already have quite a lot of "forum experience" (RPG terms lolz...) I don't really feel all that excited to talking to others in the forum that I don't know. And as I will be able to compile answers from different people from all over the world, I think that participating in discussion forums can help me in my research.

Lastly, we've learned how to do proper CITATION and BIBLIOGRAPHY. Citing references taken from the Internet is very important as you should always acknowledge the source/s of information and prevent plagiarism accusations. Creating bibliographies is also important as it represents the research you've done in writing "while offering the audience suggetions for further reading on your topic". Thus we can say that whenever a report is made, we must always cite our resources and create a bibliography of it.

Ah... well... thats all i have for now... Looking forward for tomorrows 7 HOUR EIR LESSON... lolz...
