Awrightz... now time for my day 2 reflectyion...
Well, well, well... Today's situation is practically "same" as yesterday. However, the Topic we learned today is very interesting : "SEARCH STRATEGIES". We learned hot to include and use Boolean operators to "narrow down" the search results to those that corresponds with the topic the most. Aside from those, we also made use of Stems and Wildcards to help ease our searching.
While searching for "Role of Robots in Society" (which happens to be my search topic), I made use of all those search strategies. And what do you know; I had such an easy time finding the neccessary resoources related to my topic! I was really amazed at the speed at which I found those resources as compared to not using Boolean operators. The downside, however, using that method requires typing stuff that I am not really used to typing when searching...
During Practical, we were tasked to compare the search engines of http://www.google.com/ and http://scholar.google.com/ by using both. Initially, I felt that the scholar would be more efficient and effective in producing my required topic. Well it did, but it's all articles and reports (which is still useful by the way). However, upon comparing the two more in-depthly, I realized that google alone is more efficient for me. This is because, although it does give some irrelevent information, it does give a very wide range of results from which you have a lot more choices to choose the "best" source.
Another thing is that we were supposed to participate in a discussion forum that is related to our research topic. Although already found the forum for my topic (thanks to google), I have yet to post something although one of this days I will. As I already have quite a lot of "forum experience" (RPG terms lolz...) I don't really feel all that excited to talking to others in the forum that I don't know. And as I will be able to compile answers from different people from all over the world, I think that participating in discussion forums can help me in my research.
Lastly, we've learned how to do proper CITATION and BIBLIOGRAPHY. Citing references taken from the Internet is very important as you should always acknowledge the source/s of information and prevent plagiarism accusations. Creating bibliographies is also important as it represents the research you've done in writing "while offering the audience suggetions for further reading on your topic". Thus we can say that whenever a report is made, we must always cite our resources and create a bibliography of it.
Ah... well... thats all i have for now... Looking forward for tomorrows 7 HOUR EIR LESSON... lolz...
