Reflection 03-25

Now then, 3rd day...

Today, we touched on the types of search facilities such as SEARCH ENGINES, META SEARCH ENGINES, SUBJECT DIRECTORIES and INVISIBLE WEBS (DATABASES). As we have already covered search engines during yesterday's lesson, we did the other three.

We compared the meta search engines with the subject directories. Personally, I would prefer the meta search engines over subject directories as the subject directory used ( http://dir.yahoo.com/?skw=yahoo+directory ) was unable to produce any results that is relevant to my research topic (a disappointment for me, really) while the meta search engine that we used ( http://www.metacrawler.com/ ) was able to produce completely relevant topics.

For the Invisible Webs, we made use of the TP Database to search for our research topics. While I was able to find very relevant topics, I would still prefer using search/meta search engines to research on my topic as most databases are inaccessible to the public and requires you to have an account to login and use them (like the TP spark and TBSCO).

Lastly, we learnt how to site feed (atom.xml) that enabled us to view each other's blog in a "text-summary" version. I actually found it useful, especially for those "hard-to-navigate" blogs... lolz...

Well that's all for now... yeah I know yesterday's was longer... but really, its the quality that matters, right?...
